Nose Surgery

Due to a rare birth defect, 17-year-old Cassidy Hooper of North Carolina, was born without eyes and a nose. Fortunately, Cassidy was born otherwise normal, and suffered no damage to her heart or brain.

With the new nose she’s always dreamed of on the way, Cassidy can finally look forward to something most of us take for granted: a new nose, a sense of smell, and a new lease on life. She will also receive prosthetic eyes. Cassidy currently attends a high school for the blind in Raleigh, NC, and hopes to be a radio broadcaster one day.

Cassidy’s journey to a new nose has not been easy or simple. This past summer, she underwent a variety of surgeries toward the final goal of a brand new nose.

The initial surgeries involved harvesting skin grafts and stretching skin in preparation for building the foundation for Cassidy’s new nose.

For her part, Cassidy has always remained stoic and optimistic; her mantra since age 11 has been quoted as “I don’t need easy; I just need possible.” With advances in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery, this goal is becoming reality.

Since her final surgery was set for September 18th, only time will tell of the success of the surgery.

Reconstructive Rhinoplasty

Cassidy’s case, though extraordinary, is just one example of how reconstructive rhinoplasty can change people’s lives. Though reconstruction has been an option for nasal trauma or birth defects in the past, recent innovations have made even more complicated reconstructions possible.

Reconstructive Rhinoplasty: A Complex Procedure

If you’re considering cosmetic or reconstructive rhinoplasty, it’s important to be aware of the complexity of the procedure. Rhinoplasty is one of the most difficult procedures to perform correctly, and requires a surgeon with skill, artistry, and experience.
