In recent years there has been a shift in cosmetic surgery toward less invasive procedures. For instance, frown lines and forehead furrows are now commonly treated with BOTOX injections or injectable fillers rather than a surgical forehead lift.
Now, even rhinoplasty is being performed with non-surgical techniques like injectable fillers. At Advanced Cosmetic Surgery of New York, our rhinoplasty patients often want to know if a non-surgical nose job can effectively replace nasal surgery.
Candidates for the Non-Surgical Nose Job
The non surgical nose job involves a few simple injections of a filler substance and these are strategically placed in the nose. This technique is not effective for everyone. For instance, this is not the best technique for large or wide nose rhinoplasty or for narrowing wide nostrils.
Non surgical nose job techniques are appropriate, however, for those with mild to moderate nasal imperfections. Bumps and other contour irregularities, particularly those from a previous nose reconstruction surgery, can be disguised.
Fillers can also fill dents, straighten the profile, improve a crooked nose, create symmetry, augment a flat nasal bridge, and raise a droopy tip. Many patients ask our rhinoplasty specialists if fillers will make the nose appear bigger and this is actually not the case.
When used strategically to improve irregularities and asymmetry, the nose actually appears more proportionate to the surrounding facial features.
Details of the Non Surgical Nose Job
RADIESSE is one of the most commonly used fillers for the non surgical nose job. This is a natural, biodegradable filler made of calcium hydroxylapatite which can last for up to one year.
A topical anesthetic cream is used to first numb the area and then the filler is injected into very precise locations throughout the nose. The whole procedure takes just fifteen minutes to complete. This is why you may hear this procedure also referred to as the 15-minute nose job.
Results are immediate, though some patients may require a few touch-up injections afterward and these can be administered after two weeks. There is little to no pain during or after injection and minimal bruising and swelling after rhinoplasty with injectables.
Recovery after injectables is minimal and work and other normal activities can be resumed immediately after treatment. Non surgical nose job may be an excellent option for some patients. For other patients, however, traditional surgical rhinoplasty may be the best approach.
