Lisa Kudrow wasn’t well known until she received a spot on the popular show, Friends. It aired 10 seasons with the 10th one ending in 2004. She was born in Encino, California and lived with her father, sister and brother. As she was growing up, she often felt shy and awkward in front of people.

Before going to Vassar College, she imagined she would do the same as her father and brother by going into the medical profession. A friend of hers changed her mind by encouraging her to try some improvisation. That was all it took to get her hooked on the world of acting.

When she started acting, she didn’t feel like that shy and awkward little girl anymore. She was center stage and she loved it.

An In-Depth Interview With Lisa Kudrow

In a recent interview with the Saturday Evening Post, Kudrow shared some of her feelings about her career and life. One of the questions was about changing her appearance when she was 16. She said this during her interview:

That was life altering. I went from, in my mind, hideous, to not hideous. I did it the summer before going to a new high school. So there were plenty of people who wouldn’t know how hideous I looked before. That was a good, good, good change.

Kudrow graduated high school two years after receiving her nose job. She then went straight to Vassar College. From her interview with the Post, it seems highly likely that much of her confidence came from getting rhinoplasty and being pleased with the way she looked afterward.

It might have been what gave her the courage to try improvisation. She probably didn’t feel so awkward anymore because she didn’t feel as though her nose was what everyone was looking at.
