There’s an app for just about everything in life these days: games, music, recipes, wine pairing, fitness, and… Nose jobs? Pixtr, an app still in its beta stages, gives users’ photos instant airbrush effects.

Business Insider claims that Pixtr “uses face recognition software to scan the photo and make minor adjustments like slimming a nose or a jawline, trimming eyebrows, correcting camera distortion. It takes into account things like sex, hair color, age.”

Nose Jobs: There's an App for That? rhinoplasty simulatorAn App for Changing Your Face

The company’s tagline reads “Putting Your Best Face Forward,” and is aimed at people who are less than pleased with how their loved ones’ (or their own) amateur photography skills make them look in photos.

There’s obviously a huge market for this kind of app, with Business Insider citing that “with no marketing, it [Pixtr] already has 1,500 downloads” in two weeks. Why?

In this era of social media, more and more people are seeking cosmetic procedures to look better on camera. With this mindset, the idea of the camera itself making you look better is understandably alluring.

Pixtr: Good or Bad?

Will Pixtr prove to be a positive force, as it’s intended? Or make everyone feel even more insecure than they already do? In the end, of course, it’s up to each user. Regardless of societal pressures, it’s important to feel comfortable with what you are doing for your own confidence and self-esteem.

Let’s Get Real

An automatic nose job sounds great, doesn’t it? Unfortunately, those Pixtr results don’t carry over into real life. If you’re unhappy with the shape or size of your nose and would like to be camera-ready without airbrushing, rhinoplasty with a skilled facial plastic surgeon could be the right option for you. It’s permanent, effective, and usually gives an enormous boost to self-confidence.
